Meet Drs. John and Joey Helton – Helton Family Dental Care, PA

John Helton, DMD, FAGD

After attending Mississippi State University for his undergraduate studies, Dr. John Helton graduated from The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry in 1996. Following graduation, he accepted a position with Access Family Health Services in Smithville, MS. Access Family Health Services is an approved facility of the National Health Service Corps which assists in providing medical care for underserved communities across America. After three years of service, Dr. John became attached to this part of Northeast Mississippi and elected to begin a private practice a few short miles down the road in Amory, MS.

Since then, Dr. John has been providing cosmetic and comprehensive dental care using the most advanced techniques for all his patients. Dr. John is an active member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the Mississippi Dental Association (MDA), the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE) which allows him to administer Botulinum Toxin injections (BOTOX) and Dermal Filler. In recognition of his pursuit to provide the most up-to-date dentistry available to his patients by participating in advanced continuing education courses, Dr. John has obtained one of dentistry’s most sought-after honors, a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. John spends the majority of his spare time with his wife, Shawn, and his two sons, Davis and Bryce.

He and his family spend lots of time enjoying the outdoors through hunting and fishing as well. They enjoy attending all MSU sporting events and love cheering on the “DAWGS”! Dr. John and his family are members of Amory First Global Methodist Church and are very active in their service through the church and in their community.

Joey Helton, DMD, FAGD

After completing his Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2002, Dr. Joey Helton served as the Dental Director at Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center in Pendleton, Oregon. During his tenure, he learned to appreciate the Native American culture and got to experience the true “Western lifestyle.” In October 2005, Dr. Joey accepted an associate position with his brother, Dr. John, at Helton Family Dental Care, PA, in Amory, Mississippi.

Together, they practice cosmetic and comprehensive family dentistry for the entire family. Dr. Joey attends numerous continuing education courses each year. Dr. Joey has extensive training in anxiety control through DOCS (Doctors of Conscious Sedation), short term adult orthodontics (6 Month Smiles, ClearCorrect, and Invisalign), adult and children’s comprehensive orthodontics (braces), mini and full implants, children’s dentistry, prosthodontics, and chronic adult periodontal therapy. Dr. Joey has also earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Joey attended the University of South Alabama and Springhill College for his undergraduate studies where he was on the baseball team at both schools. He is married to Holli Shields Helton of Amory. She teaches eighth grade science at Amory Middle School. Between their son, Mason, and daughter, Kendall, they are kept very busy attending their sporting events. Dr. Joey dabbles in many hobbies including motorcycles, baseball, water sports, snow sports, coaching youth sports, and reading. They enjoy participating in all that Monroe County and the surrounding areas have to offer. Dr. Joey and his family attend First Baptist Church in Amory.
